SmugMug/Hosting/Email

I am a new member to SmugMug and see myself signing up to your pro level package. My site is filedimage.smugmug.com. I actually used to be a web designer but find that I am just not getting a site complete, and I certainly don’t have the level of skill to make it fully database driven with ecommerce etc. Smugmug appears to make this very easy and the galleries look great.<o:p></o:p>

I have emailed my domain company to get them to point towards the smugmug domain. My question however is this. At present I have a registered domain name and a hosting plan. Now in signing up for the pro plan for SmugMug it appears I don’t need my old hosting. However to have email with my domain name then I believe SmugMug doesn’t handle this, so webhosting is still required? Do I still need webhosting in order to store website graphics which SmugMug references in the customization of the page? Or do people upload to SmugMug their website graphics and then keep the gallery hidden? Can I add a .ico file to Smugmug?<o:p></o:p>

It looks like you also e-mailed the help desk with your questions and Lindy replied to you already. It makes twice the work for us if you post on Dgrin and also e-mail the help desk. The SmugMug Support Hero's do watch Dgrin while answering your e-mails, so for future reference please either post or e-mail, but do not do both. :D Thanks we really appreciate it.

On to your questions. The short answer is yes, Smugmug offers all you are looking for. If you want to keep you custom domain name you can but you do not need to. You will recieve a URL from SmugMug that is http://nickname.smugmug.com where nickname is a word of your choosing. If you already have a domain you can set a CNAME to point to your SmugMug page. You do not need a hosting service. For you to keep an e-mail address check with your current Registrar to see if they supply one to you, many will include an e-mail address with the purchase of your domain, even without hosting. We like GoDaddy (http://wiki.smugmug.net/display/SmugMug/GoDaddy+CNAME+Setup).

It's where I host mine, haven't had a lick of trouble.
