Taken today from the Rideau Canal. The water level is still low from wintertime, allowing us a peak at what lies below. In the next few weeks water levels will rise allowing the resumption of boat navigation.

I was so close I used the 18-70, with a polarizing filter to cut the glare. She was in about 2ft of water, slowly meandering about without concern. By mid-late may (depending on water temps) she will nest. Until then and especially now, she is vulnerable. I think I tried to capture that.

Very kewl AJ :thumb :thumb

So were you standing in the water and she swam between your feet? That's the feeling I get from looking at it :clap Good idea to use a polarizer too :clap

Thanks for sharing,
Steve

Haha, thank goodness (ewww that water is gross!) no! I was about 5-6ft away I'd guess, but practically right over top. I was quite fortunate to get so close to a big girl like her (looked to be about 3lbs), which is rare. Thanks for having a look! :):

Great capture :thumb ...

Amazing that the water is that clear... that mud on the bed looks like fine silt. Suprised her tail didn't kick some of it up!

Thanks! Funny you mention that, I turned away for a couple of seconds and when I looked back **POOF!** all that was left was a big cloud, and a trail of silt! :):

:thumb Wow! You got some really impressive quality shooting into the water like that. You had that polarizer dialed in just perfect. Nice exposure and sharpness. Quite a "catch".
