We went to the fireworks show in Torrance on Friday night. They launch from a barge offshore so there is nice viewing from the beach. You can check out an expanded selection of favorites here (http://canghuixu.smugmug.com/keyword/5334415uje2n-favorite) and the whole gallery here (http://canghuixu.smugmug.com/gallery/5334415_ujE2n), but here are a few of my favorites...

As the show in Torrance was winding down, the show up the beach in Hermosa was just getting started, so a lot of people who were leaving the beach in Torrance stopped on the way out to look at the fireworks up in Hermosa...

I was shooting with a 20D with the 17-55 f2.8 IS, all handheld. I used Lightroom for the raw conversion, and as I learn more about it, I like it more and more.

I LOVE the first one. It doesn't look so much like a typical fireworks shot as it looks like some kind of cosmic explosion in space. Excellent detail!

Thanks! I am actually a bit puzzled but of course pleased by the level of detail, considering it was a one second, hand-held exposure. I guess the initial flash acted like a strobe that illuminated the water, and then the remainder of the exposure the water was not illuminated as well. But I was particularly pleased with the wave crests, they give the picture a slightly menacing look, like the water is boiling or something.

Cool! Glad you like the pictures, it was a nice show you guys put on. There are links in the original post to the gallery, and a selection from the gallery, hope you enjoy. Of course, there were a lot more pictures that I discarded because they didn't turn out.
