i think they are great! now im not one to ever give advice, but sometimes i try to get the experience. I much prefer the 2nd shot because in the 1st image my gaze wants to go to her legs / feet.... i like them both - but prefer the 2nd!

Rutt, not to be picky or anything, but that bit of coat on the left lower side, it bothers me. I want to look at her face and I keep coming back to the bit of coat.

I scanned down just to where the coat was out of the photo and it became, IMO, the portrait that you want it to be. Just a suggestion to crop or whatever to get that coat out of there.

Wonderful older woman. Love those shots.

Fantastic Rutt!

Is it just me or is there something in the tight lips and scrutinizing look that suggests despisement of the invasion of her privacy? Something from another land or another culture maybe?

I shot this in November but for some reason I was disappointed with it then. I took a closer look at it yesterday because I was looking for some good faces to use for part 3 of my sharpening tutorial. Now I love it. This happens to me kind of a lot. I ofent expect something different than what I get and it takes me a while to like what I actually got.

Thanks, everyone. Ginger, I'll play with the crop some mre. I deliberately cropped to include that little bit of coat. I tried other coats, but somehow, I like that best. Nir, she definately was not in love with me shooting her. That was the implication of the titile the sentence "I love catching that moment". There is a moment in shooting candids when you are first detected. People react in different ways, but it's always interesting. Here is another of the same ilk, but she wasn't unhappy about it.
