Hi,

I'm a newcomer to Photoshop. I'm trying to create text which has an image inside it. I've tried opening a picture, adding a new layer with my hollow text on and that's fine. The part I'm stuck on is removing the rest of the photo around the text but not inside it.

I'm sure there's an easy way to do this, but I've searched for a while and have not been able to find a solution. I'm using PS 7 if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance.

IN CS, you need to click on Layers>Create Clipping Mask, not Group With Previous.

Hmmm... There is a much easier way to do this in photoshop cs. Just put the text (or actually any shape you want) in a layer below the picture that you want to be inside the text and in the layers palet <alt>click between the text and the image layers. Add some layer styling and voila. Keep in mind that it is counter intuitive. The container for the image (the text or the shape-which below is "GOLDEN GATE") must be below the image in order for it to work.

Thanks Mike. What's your cursor on when you alt-click?

Thanks Mike. What's your cursor on when you alt-click?
The cursor is on the layers pallet right above the text and below the image to be in that text. I tried to get a screen shot but when I hit alt and PrtScrn all I get is a copy of the layers pallet itself. The cursor will change to two overlaping circles. You'll see what I mean.

That is a neat trick that I've never really thought of trying - cool! BTW, Mike's way is just a keyboard shortcut to Waxy's way. Just pointing it out cause I forget keyboard shortcuts easily, but knowing something exists in a menu, and what is is helps me down the road.

Thanks guys :thumb
