Here is just a snapshot type photo of my wife. I've cropped it but with her darker skin tone and freckles I don't really know how to dress it up in photoshop.

Here is a larger one if you want it.

Here is a quick fix try by me. What do you think?

Edit: This still needs more work. It looks unatural to me. Basically blur, healing brush, blur healing brush. Use layer mask if you can.http://tmlphoto.smugmug.com/photos/19865375-L.jpg

http://gingersnap.smugmug.com/photos/19871180-S.jpg The first one I did, then I went on from there

This one above was the last I did without the help of Scott Kelby in his book The PS CS Book p. 214 advanced skin softening.
This below is the finished version. The smaller one of the bigger one at the bottom. I like it, you took a good portrait. (I have used this method before and sought it out, because I like it.)

Now if you had only given me the original, lol.......
This just made my Sunday, the most exciting thing I have done all day. I did not touch the freckles, I like freckles. I don't know that much about skin color so I left it, too. I figured the methods I was using would show the portrait of your wife off best.
There is a light area at the very top right that needs to come out. Just use your clone tool.
ginger (thanks for making my day :D )

Thanks to everyone who gave this a whirl.... they all look great. Now for the original. Believe it or not it was just a quick snapshot. Here's what this originated from.

It's the personality in the eyes and the cheekbones. Fantastic cheekbones.
