same reason one would want the 200 1.8 from canon:

* indoor gymnastics
* hockey
* any indoor activity in a large facility with poor lighting
* outdoor portraits where you want to totally obscure the bg
* outdoor (or large large studio) creative work
* any of the above that require uber-sharpness

..never stop to amaze me..

$11K.. *all* my computer/photography hardware/software *together* does not cost that much, and this is just *a* lens..

I guess I better stick with my "small" camera, "it's a rich men's world" (Abba):):, it does not look that I qualify for it (yet)..

The original 300/2 was made for the 1984 Olympics, and in 1990 sold for about $20,000. There was no Ebay then.
