no, i never heard that joke before. being hard of hearing, i think it is hilarious, but i don't know how other hard of hearing people would take it, so I am afraid to pass it on.

Ginger, I believe (of course, I could be wrong-nothing new there...), that the "joke" is a reference to the Verizon Wireless TV commercials where the guys are shown in various locations talking on their cell phones and saying-"Can you hear me now?"

Basically, the advert. is showing that with Verizon you can use your cell phone *anywhere* and still get a signal.

I'm a bit hard of hearing myself, having spent way too much time in front of or next to Marshall stacks (amplifier setups for electric guitars) and playing the drums with no hearing protection.

I just wanted to let you know that the "joke" was not in reference to any physically impaired persons.
