In Ivar Borst's excellent booklet on customizing and in several posts, I see references to images being used as logos and the refs are something like: http://www.smugmug.com/photo/123456789-O.png.
I have made a logo and uploaded it to a private gallery on my smugmug page, but neither the url shown in my browser bar or info shown under the "photo info" button for the logo image shown anything like the *****-O.png information.
I want to replace the smugmug logo at the top of the page with my own (and unfortunately, the info in the FAQ didn't work for me).
I've searched the forum and come up empty and am just beginning to try to slog my way through customization (and CSS).

Hi Jerry :wave

Each image has an ID. This ID can be found in the URL. I actually need to update the booklet a bit, since it slightly changed recently.

The ID can be found usually at the trailing end of an URL.

For example:
http://www.ivarborst.com/gallery/5114047_ZQ9oq#308687690_m6SZ3
takes you to the page, and if you look at the last bit, behind the pound-sign (308687690_m6SZ3) you'll see the image ID.

The direct link to an image is always looks like:
http://nickname.smugmug.com/photos/1234567_aBcD-O.png in case of a banner where you have used transparency (change the png by jpg or gif if you need to).

In this case, the direct link to my image would be: http://nickname.smugmug.com/photos/308687690_m6SZ3-O.jpg

I hope this helps.

:clapThanks guys. There is NOTHING like Smugmug support!

Up to my armpits in getting a room in the house ready to become an office, but I'll get back to the customization front soon. In the meantime, my galleries remain hidden.

Thanks again for the quick, clear help.

Well, the advice form Ivar and Andy made perfect sense, but it still didn't work of me. There is a lot of customization that I want to do to my site, but, unless I want to spent many, many hours trying to figure out CSS coding that should be going to other business-development efforts, it is time to consider Plan B. I think the wise course may be to hire one of your customizers and abandon my current medical doctor approach ("Let's try this and see what happens.")

See, my poor brain is already suffering to the extent that proper spelling (typing, actually) of such simple words as "from" [form] and "for" [of](how that happened, i don't know) escapes me.
Sorry for the screw-up(s).
