This guy must be the grandad of snapping turtles (I think you can tell from the serrated shell at the rear).
From the pond behind my office building...Regards...Keith

Big snapping turtles really are fearsome beasts. Here's one from last summer.

A father/son team hauled it out of the pond in Nantucket. It got out of their net and hissed like a cat and chased us around the bridge until they finally caught it again and returned it to the pond.

Hey Keith,
That's one big turtle. Good capture.

This is only the dad. There is a bigger one. Don't have a good shot yet and the pond (only there after a good rain) is shrinking. But I'll try....http://www.digitalgrin.com/images/smilies/1drink.gif

These snapping turtle shots really need a person or something in them to give them scale. They really are so big and without a point of reference you just can't tell. We are starting to get into egg laying time now. Last year I came upon a trafic jam in a road that runs along a creek. Turns out there was a turtle the size of a truck wheel in the middle of the road and traffic was stopped in both directions. Nobody wanted to run it over but nobody was brave enough to move it. Wish I'd had a camera then.
