The Charles River has been dammed at this place since the late 17th century. Originally, this was a saw mill, but later became a textile mill for making silk fabric. Now it is sort of a funky mall, full of low end antique (junk/thrift) stores.

Looking down river from this point, this is the Waban Arch Bridge, a part of the Sudbury Aqueduct system. It was built in 1876 and crosses a part of the Charles called Hemlock Gorge.
