Hi

When rainbows exists, the time is very short before it evaporates or looses its sharp color, what camera settings or filters could be used to get the best photo? In researching this idea a CPL or a circular GD at .6 filter seems to work.

Any other ideas?

I have tried taking pictures, but the colors of the rainbows seem to be always wash out. Photo shop has the toys to create a better photo, but if you start out with the best shot it can always be a great shot.

Light coming from a rainbow can be quite polarized so using a circular polarizer, you can rotate the CP until more background light is blocked and less of the colored light is blocked, thus enhancing the visibility of the rainbow against the background. Other than that, you just have to make sure you get a proper exposure and then you're in a position to enhance color or contrast in post processing.
