New here but not new to smugmug.
Here's a capture of a butterfly that I like, but have at it.
Got it on the original rebel with the 70-200f4 with 1.4 extender wide open
Thanks in advance

I really enjoy looking at this picture. This is one of the more artful butterfly macros I've seen in a while. It would look great in a 12x12-in frame on my daughter's bedroom wall. I would thihk you could sell this to schools and nursing homes by the lot.
The shape of the base leaf is so interesting and coordinates well with the insect. I also like how the lines in the bokeh vaguely compliment the design in the wings. Nice muted color too. I wouldn't change much here.
My only critique is whether the edges of the wings are a bit raggy--but that could be common to the species of butterfly.
Nice job.:thumb

This pretty much sums up what I would have to say. :D
I really like it. It is definitely a nice photograph. Some of the detail in the body of the butterfly is hard to see, either due to the small size of the image you posted and/or it being slightly out of focus. You may need some sharpenning.

This image is really difficult to criticize.
The only (very small) nit might be to darken the lower right area so that it's not so bright and attention getting.
But frankly, I wish it was mine.:D

Welcome to the Whipping Post.
I'll reiterate what others have said: really beautiful butterfly macro!
The butterfly is aligned nicely with the focal plane to maximize in focus elements. The bokah patterns are subtle and supportive of the overall composition. The curve and serrated edges of the leaf perch really take the image to the next level by gently reiterating the patterns in the butterfly itself.
Ideally, the bright portion of the background would be just a bit higher to highlight the butterfly more than the base of the leaf, and the dark portions wouldn't quite overlap the butterfly's wings, but more framed them. But these are small, nitpicky comments about things I understand are almost impossible to control in a macro situation like this.
Again, lovely image.

I appreciate the kind feedback. Next time I'll seek a photo that I struggled with a bit more and like more than others.
I had a tough time getting the body into focus, but felt I needed to shoot wide open. That bugs me a bit.
It is helpful to hear the comments about how the leaf and the background compliment the pattern of its wings, and I agree it would be great if the butterfly did not overlap with one of the leaves in the background.
