Dodgers v. Mets 5/31/08

Dem Bums vs the Metropolitans. Seats were great (behind home plate) but I really hate sitting there because of the screen. I did what I could with what I had though! All were shot with the 40D and 70-200L/2.8 with 1.4x TC.

I can see them, and I;m glad that I can, too because they are fantastic! Great job on shooting these from the stand, tyou should send them to SI aha. but really, for shooting from the stands these are great. nice job!

those are some great shots! i have been shooting local high school and semi-pro baseball so i know just what you mean by the difficulty of the "net." however i think you have done a great job capturing the action. i especially like the one of the guy sliding in to 3rd base, ouch.

What time of day was this?
What ISO were you using?

I can't seem to get shots like this and I"m using the same setup - my games are Noon though, I think the harsh lighting is killing me (local dodgers minor league team). the only difference is i'm shooting from the press area, not the stands.

This was between 4pm-7pm. It had rained most of the afternoon prior to the game so it was too dark for my tastes. I prefer a bright sunny afternoon. ISO was mostly 800.

A lot of it has to do with the lens. You can't do better than the 70-200 f/2.8L. Although with the 1.4x TC I was actually at f/4.

Thanks for the reply. I think part of my problem is that the games i've been doing are t high noon and those white dodgers home team uniforms and dark away team plus bright desert sun are killing my exposures. I m going to try for an afternoon game this sunday and see if I can get better results.

My 2.8L is non-IS, but I think at those shutter speeds with a monopod I should be OK. Just need more practice :D

Photoshop is your friend. I always touch mine up to adjust the lighting. I'd like to think I'm a purist, however I'm not good enough to get awesome shots straight out of the camera :)
