You givin that first one shock treatments Harry?
Great shots as usual.
I saw my first egrets of the year yesterday. I had the manual WB set wrong for the first series and they came out all blue.... and I horribly over exposed the rest. :dunno

How do you get the shots like the first one? Do you pop out of somewhere and say "BOO"?
I notice that you went to spot metering on the latest ones. Un, why? If it was because they were backlit, or whatever, still they are pretty white, did you use a -EC with the spot metering?
Great shots as usual! And you know I did make my contribution.
Oh, I notice that your egrets have yellow/orange banding across the area above their beak. No green that I can see. Mine have had green. Why? (That could not be something I did wrong????)
Have a good rest of the day!

Thank you Ben. The main reason I took the last 3 shots was because of the water colors behind them. I nailed the first sucker on my first try. My next 6 shots of him sucked though. :smile6

gorgeous shots of this beautiful bird, the egret!
I'm just amazed at how good-looking the water shapes and colors on the background look, and the egret looks really sharp and nicely exposed, not to mention the elegant posing (well, and the lack of elegance on the first shot's pretty funny too)!
Thanks so much for sharing!
Take care!

Hey Brian,
Thanks for the kind comment. The wrong WB can be a bummer. I shot a whole series at the flash WB once and couldn't recover any of the shots. As for overexposing egrets I could do a book with all the oe shots I've taken.

[QUOTE=ginger_55]How do you get the shots like the first one? Do you pop out of somewhere and say "BOO"?
No but I seem to get the same reaction from all the birds and most of the people I meet also. http://dgrin.com/images/smilies/icon10.gif
I notice that you went to spot metering on the latest ones. Un, why? If it was because they were backlit, or whatever, still they are pretty white, did you use a -EC with the spot metering?
I spot metered those because the lighting was real funky. I made no ev adjustment on those shots because I was spot metering on the birds.
Oh, I notice that your egrets have yellow/orange banding across the area above their beak. No green that I can see. Mine have had green. Why? (That could not be something I did wrong????)
Your egrets were great egrets and mine were snowy egrets so thats part of te answer. When Great Egrets have that green banding it means they are ready for some mating action. http://dgrin.com/images/smilies/naughty.gif

Really incredible series Harry, the contrast between the unbelievable water and the bird are absolutely stunning. I just wish I had a couple of shots like the ones you post on a regular basis. I really enjoy your posts because I get to see what an amazing shot should look like, thanks for setting the bar.
ps. loved your cell phone story...

Great hearing from you. Where are the cute grandson pics? I've got two NJ refugees in my house right now but they should be leaving Wednesday. Drop me a line a or give me a call and we'll see what we can set up for Thursday or Friday.

Great set as usual Harry:thumb Number 2 is GREAT. I love the way the water colors make the egret stand out even more. With all the egrets around lately you still managed to make me say WOW with that one.:clap

Oh bother. This is the 200th time you posted that pic. I'm going to start charging you a usage fee. I figure I'll be able to buy that 500mm lens on these proceeds alone. BTW that was one good looking dude.

Gawd, still good looking after all these years. I can't tell you what a thrill it is to wake up in the morning and to go shave and to see that face staring out at me from the mirror.

Thanks Sid. Technically an egret is a bird but I like to think that they are more than that. :rofl
