practicing night shots

Tonight I got a wild hair and decided to try my hand at night shooting.
This first one is of the city building. Settings on my 300d were 4 sec f7.1 ISO 100 tripod mounted

Second one is of the water fountain settings are 2.5 sec f 7.1 ISO 100

Tips? Tricks? Suggestions? Camera setting ideas? I know the photos aren't the best just trying more for the setting issues rather than a technically sound photo. Thanks in advance for taking the time to comment!!:thumb

My 2 cents
Try to shoot just after sunset to get blue skys
Use iso 100 for noise
To blur water use high fstop (f/22) long shutter speed

Shoot in raw not sure if the 300d can do this...this is to get the color right
The Mecury Vapor, Metal Halid and High Pressure Sodium street lighting give the photos a yellow cast.
Try to correct this in post
You can try to set your WB...I am still trying to get this to work for me

Use your onboard timer to get the shot
And shoot a lot try all different angles...I shoot at night a lot and in the same places
it would seem that I have shot every possible angle out of a site...but not true....I still find something that looks a little different.
Try different times cloudy,windy,rainy days you might be suprised what you can come up with.
