I'll be at the Coca-Cola 600. Is it worth renting a 70-200 2.8 and 1.4x and 2x TCs, or is shooting from the stands a bust? Is it like the 24 Hours of Daytona where I could get away with standing right next to the fence? I don't know where my seats are - I got them through a media connection.

I got some good shots last Saturday at the All-star race.

Catch the cars on the track closest to you. Long shots get grainy

Save your $, enjoy the race.

you'll get a few good shots before the race starts when you're allowed to stand near the fence and its still daylight. After the race starts and it gets dark...forget it.

Not worth lugging around your camera and heavy lens...speaking from experience.

I agree with this... next year I'm not taking my camera. Once the sun is gone its over. Unless you are the lucky guy sitting on the inside of the track taking pics! Thats a nice gig there!
