hello :)
i stopped by the old smith mine on my way to red lodge MT last week, and was surprised to find the gate open. having stopped there on previous trips, and with no signs to indicate otherwise, off i went to explore :uhoh

after returning home and doing some research online, i learned the coal mine was shut down in 1943 after an explosion, in which 74 miners lost their lives.
when the opportunity presented itself to get off work early yesterday, i couldn't help but go back... there's something about the place.
one of the very few i processed in color...

b&ws processed with nik coloreffects duplex monochrome plugin. the next two were shot on a tripod and bracketed but i went with a single 5s @ f9 exposure. i kinda like how the blown highlights of the intruding light accentuate the pourus condition of the buildings. i'd love to get some (natural) light rays in there. maybe i need to fire them things up, hehe

i'm planning to return again on sunday and hope to get some better shots esp of the buildings themselves, try to capture more of the life that once was. it's a fascinating place with a tragic history, full of character.
thanks for lookin, and comments or critique appreciated as always :help
