I'm curious about some people's nicks around here. I mean, sure, JimF is fairly easy to sort, but what about wax? Fish?

My curiosity is insatiable at times, but I'll start. My nick is the Latin/Greek meaning of my first name. It also means; mermaid, siren, and is where one parks a boat.

Who's next?

A: My motorbike shakes and vibrates so when I get off of it... so do I
B: My photography stinks so I can blame it on (A)

I still have to make my camera shake icon for my avtar.

well...mine's pretty boring actually. Ya see, I have ADD, and one day back in college, I was making a presentation and all of a sudden lost my train of thought, glanced over to the aquarium in the classroom and shouted "oh look...a fish!" it stuck. :nod

I'm an old surfer and I came up with my own board waxing compound. I started a business. My monicker is the name of the product I invented. Unfortunately the business failed, but I keep the name alive.

Huh?

What's that?

You don't wax surfboards, you say? Oh.

Well, no wonder the business failed.

Your turn, fish.

ok ok. first four letters of my last name. It's been my username for 16 years. Back when we could name our hosts, everybody had clever username@hostname addresses, such as hard@work, kid@heart, hutch@wabbit. I was fish@chips.

I had a mid-life crisis, rode my motorcycle through Mexico, and shaved my head bald with a Norelco when I crossed the border. I sent my family an email from an Internet cafe Mexico City about the shaved head; my wife freaked and my kids decided I rocked.

One of my best friends christened me Baldy and it stuck.

Gubbs or Gubby was a nickname I was given before I can remember. Apparently, as a toddler I was very fond of a childrens book about a goat called Gubby who ate anything......
So I've no idea why I ended up with it!

pretty boring, eh?

actually, i'm "andy" on every website i ever have been to, or close to it, anyhow. i used to have the addy "andy@aol.com" i was one of the real early guys on the internet thru aol. then i realized aol sucked so i reluctantly gave that one up ;-)

in my professional life, for the past 20 years, the one that's stuck most often in "moon river" so that's how i named my business.

loved reading the stories from the rest of y'all! how'd i miss this thread?

I most often wonder if anyone on any of the sites I go to can even pronounce my "handle"... Funny thing is, neither can I!
My name is two Gaelic words (I cant remember if theyre English or Irish or Scottish...) crammed together that translate as "Brave Blue"... I dont know why either! Its better than calling myself Dan, my boring first name, or my zip code, for crap's sake http://www.digitalgrin.com/images/smilies/yelrotflmao.gifhttp://www.digitalgrin.com/images/smilies/yelrotflmao.gifhttp://www.digitalgrin.com/images/smilies/yelrotflmao.gif!!! No offense intended, of course, those who use their first names...
I played Dungeons & Dragons for a while, and you had to get the creative juices flowing to name your character something "original", and make it not sound like something from a retarded low-budget sci-fi flick (*cough* *star trek* *cough*...). I shoulda' used a different one for this board, but I wanted to afford seamaiden gloating rights and the ability to publicly defame me due to my acidic rhetoric on RDO and my age (*seems to be a popular thing in our society!*) *Sigh* I think I must have been a muslim in a past life, cause I have this thing for self-flaggelation (sp?); umm, different from hummungous, though....
Also, I use names like that for computer games and the like; BF1942 and NeverWinter Nights are a couple... Anyone else play these games?

MainFragger
Aug-01-2004, 10:29 PM
I'm sure this is already listed in two different places on this site. But for the benefit of those that haven't seen it, here is how Fragger and MainFragger came about.

In 1990 I started modeming at 1200 baud. Being the gnarly elite bbs'er, I decided I need a gnarly elite bbs handle. So I searched high and low for a handle worthy of someone who is gnarly and elite. I watched gnarly tv, read gnarly books, and last but not least checked out some gnarly comicbooks.

And I found one that was Fraggin' hilarious. It turns out that there was this fragger named Lobo that fragged people for a living. He can track anyone he has met and seen for even a second. He destroyed his whole fraggin' planet so to destroy anyone that had his species natural abilities that he could be the Main Man and not have any competion. His natural abilities include the ability to heal instantly, and to propegate by merely dripping blood on the ground. He has had a long an illustrius career as a bountyhunter/hitman/assassin. Where ever he is, so is death, mayhem, and well, even more death.
He has a bike that he rides around in space, and from time to time uses a chain and hook to make mincement of his enemies when using explosives, guns and various other high end weapons is too easy.

Anyway, as a result, I started using Fragger based off of his multipurpose usage of the word. When Quake and Doom came out, my handle became slightly popular. It seemed like for 3 of 4 years I was able to get away with Fragger69. But the last two years have gotten to the point where if you try to sign in on a new site as Fragger, you end up with Fragger9999929200982872. So I went with MainFragger because Lobo also refers to himself as The Main Man. So far that has been safe.

I now return to you to your regularly programmed reality...

I feel so mundane. Lynnesite comes from my website, lynnesite.com.

There is one funny story about that though--in the attempt to choose a website name that will be memorable and all--I didn't try to see who had variations on it. When one customer/friend had some trouble, he called--I asked how he was spelling "lynne" to find he had not included the "e" on the end. He relelated how the site without the "e" was a porn site, amateur, and of good quality. After he realized what he'd just said, we had a good chuckle, and every few years I check to see if ole Lynn is still in biz. (she is...)

I was going to answer this last week and got distracted and forgot. Anyway... mine is really simple. Nikon is my favorite manufacter (I've dreamed since I started at age 17 of owning one) and the N90 was my dream camera. My husband actually bought it for me 3 years ago for Xmas and I love it!!! Its my baby!! I have several others I use, especially now that I am trying this digital stuff but the N90 is main film camera. So nothing exciting, but that's my story.
