Someone please tell me what's wrong with this deal, 'cause it looks pretty good to me.

I've been waiting for the price of 4 gig cards to come down. Today for the first time I noticed a new card from Ridata.

It's 4BG, 80X (12MB/sec), and $333. I realize that ain't cheap, but it's a lot lower than comporable 4GB cards.

It's at mydigitaldiscount (http://www.mydigitaldiscount.com/s.nl/sc.2/category.442/it.A/id.618/.f), from which I've safely bought before.

The card is rated faster than Sandisk Ultra II (60x or 9MB/sec) and the same as Lexar's 80X, which cost around $412. So this new Ridata seems like a very good deal.

Price seems good, did you find any reviews on the cards?

No. It looks pretty new, too. I don't remember seeing a gold label on a Ridata before. :dunno

I put zero faith in the "X" speed factors. None. Nadda. Zip. If I want to know if something is fast, I check out the Compact Flash Data base at www.robgalbraith.com. Here are some interesting numbers to ponder, tested on a Canon 20D when writing RAW files.

Sandisk Ultra II (60X): 5.9 MB/sec
Lexar (80X): 5.7 MB/sec
Riadata 52X: 3.5 MB/sec

If you could trust the X numbers, the Riadata should be just over 5MB/sec based on the Sandisk 60X figures. Also, the Lexar should be close to 8 MB/sec, but it isn't.

Until I see the Ridata 80X cards actually tested on the camear I own, I wouldn't buy one.

I'd put that CF card in the same category as Quantaray lenses. Sure it will work, but can you trust it completely?

I had 1GB Viking cards and sold them for Lexar and Sandisk for that reason. You can put no price on peace of mind.

Good point, merc. Interesting numbers, I forgot to wade thru that chart. Of course, speed is camera specific too, not absolute.

Lucky, I know whatcha mean. But... I have a mix of Lexar, Transcend, Viking, maybe a Transcend. I haven't noticed any difference in reliability. But I have noticed huge differences in speed, with the older cards being slower, of course.
