Got cabin fever tonight so i went out with my bro to take a few snapshots of his car for the sake of taking pictures and i think i ended up with a pretty nice one. Have at it!

I like the tone of the shot, dark and subdued, seems to complement the car pretty aptly. The placement of the trees and the clouds is nicely spaced.
My major criticism is that the impact of the image is cheapened significantly by the loose gravel on the shoulder. The area where it meets the smoothly paved road looks like it was done by a slacker road crew and reflects poorly upon the shot. The lower front right is prime frame real estate and this magnet sucks the energy away from the car. The car's about smoothness, noir not gravel.
Maybe a tighter crop will help a bit, but you can certainly hang with you bro' for another round somewhere similar.

I like how the white of the sky reflects on the black metal, providing nice separation from the dark background. The sky's almost like a giant softbox, so you get a nice big solid reflection. Except for the reflection of the tree at the top of the hood, which comes across as a blemish instead of a planned element of the photo.

The clouds seem to be building to some sort of dark and light drama in the upper right corner, which adds some interest to that part of the image. But there's not quite enough of it visible to contribute much to the image dynamics. More of that and less of the gravel would've been a good choice.

While the play of dark and light on the metal is cool, some of the lower parts of the car are too dark and shadowy. The image could've benefited from some light other than just the sky to open up some of the shadows on the lower portions of the car. If not strobes, then maybe some large white foamcore panels could've bounced some light up into those parts.

Hmmm...

Unlike Miguel, the gravel / pavement doesn't bother me a bit. For me, what doesn't work is the sky -- it's so much brighter than the car that my eye keeps wandering up to the top of the frame. I think the image would work better if you took the picture from a higher perspective (looking down a bit), or were further down the hill -- such that in either case, the sky was reflected on the hood but not directly visible in the frame.

thanks for all the input guys:D yeah the entire day it'd been cloudy on/off and that was probably shot maybe an hour or so before sunset. keep'em comin! i wanna go out and try to recreate the shot once theres some better sky drama It's an interesting shot that could've communicated some real drama. There's the hot car on one side, and some gathering storm clouds on the other, and a deserted country road in between. The foreground gravel's a bit of a distraction, and doesn't help much, but the real problem is the sky directly above the car's blown out, which makes certain possibilities impossible. :cry

IMO, if the sky had been properly exposed, a little bit of editing could've accentuated the drama in the clouds and brought out the tension between the storm and a car that was ready to give it a run for it's money. As it stands now, the blown sky over a dark car with a hint of some gathering clouds doesn't do much for me. :scratch
