On one of my walks I saw this heron in a tree. I was only able to take one picture before he flew away ( a cyclist who thought he was Lance Armstrong scared it away - we have a lot of those here in Belgium :D )

(taken with the bigma at 500 mm., handheld)
He joined a few others at about 200 yards distance

(again at 500 mm. - handheld)

Nice ones Peter :thumb :thumb
It's super that we can get some egret/heron shots from other continents posted here :clap :clap Yeah, those darn cyclists :huh Or otherwise clueless souls who just walk right towards birds and scare them away for all :uhoh But, again, that makes those really nice shots you occassionally get, that much more precious :D
Thanks for sharing,
Steve
So how are ya liking your Bigma? The more I use mine, the more I like it :thumb Because of the 10X zoom, I'm even thinking of using it as my "walkaround" lens when we go to Yosemite.

Hi Steve,
I like the Bigma a lot. http://www.digitalgrin.com/images/smilies/nod.gif
I'm already used to the weight of the combination 300D, battery grip and Bigma. I already made walks of 10 kms and more without getting back problems http://www.digitalgrin.com/images/smilies/mwink.gif
I'm also VERY much surprised about the sharpness of the pictures (even handheld at 500 mm.) It's defenitely a lens that I'll keep. But ... if Sigma should decide to make one with "OS" ... then I might consider replacing it.

It it isn't a cyclist, its a dog, or runners that scare the birds away.
It was nice to see some European egrets!
Handheld? pretty good! :clap
