can anyone tell me WHY my camera, Nikon D200, continually uses battery power to reveal the settings in the view finder, shutter speed, etc, when it usually turns off until I 1/2 press the shutter? The power won't turn off & uses by battery power.

Under Custom Settings... c3 is Auto Meter-Off. You can set it for 4, 6, 8, 16sec or no limit. You may also want to look @ c5 (Monitor-Off) as this is also a big power draw.
