Just got a new 40D today :clap

Looking through the Canon Europe video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzRU4KG-jE4

The camera they use shows a firmware version of 2.6.1 although the latest release version is 1.0.8

(Pause / forward the clip around the 1min 59sec mark to see)

An in-house beta / engineering version perhaps or a subtle joke (can't find any reference to it on Google)?

:dunno

Intriguing! it's on the screen for a tiny fraction of a second, which makes me doubt it'd be deliberate!

Anyone know for certain if the firmware version is assigned the same number globally? Or can there be local variations?

At this point I'd expect some sort of in house beta, certainly given how recent the last update was, or at least, it seemed to be to myself.

I doubt they would jump from 1.0.8 to 2 dot anything. That would be a huge revision.

Canon Japan:

(Click on the "Drivers and Downloads tab)
ver 1.0.8

Canon Europe jumps to the Japan site.

I really think firmware 1.0.8 is the current version (as of Apr. 2008)

Hi Ziggy, I knew that 1.0.8 was definately the latest firmware release. Just curious why the camera on the video showed 2.6.1 - I thought someone reading may have had some inside knowledge.
