View Full Version : Slideshow loading slow...

So I searched around a bunch for previous threads about this, but all the threads I found didn't address anything in particular that would fix it. I recently changed over from the old school style slideshow to the new flash style slideshow. I really like it, it looks fantastic, but I've noticed it tends to load rather slowly. I did replace the smugmug logo with a "please wait" image for while it loads so that people aren't confused by it just sitting there.

Thoughts? Thanks.

bump?

thought - would not having the buttons on bottom where they can see the other photos speed this loading up?

I don't have an answer for you but am having the same problem. It seems to vary. Sometimes the slide show loads in 3 to 4 seconds and other times it can take up to 30.:dunno

I just tried and it took about 5 seconds. It seems to take longer later in the day. Maybe has something to do with the speed of the connection? :scratch

I have gone to other sites with slide shows, yours for example and the load time seems pretty consist all the time.

is 260kb - try saving for web with a good amount of compression that's a rather hefty file :)

Shima,
I went to your homepage and waited over two minutes. The slide show never did start. Ok still waiting its been another two minutes. I don't think it's going to start at all.:dunno Definetly longer than mine has ever taken.

I cannot see any photos in your slideshow. Have you enabled external links in the 'customize' page of your slideshow gallery?

Cheers,

Will do, HOWEVER, before I even put that "waiting" photo in there, it still was taking ridiculously long to load...

I resized it down to under 100kb. Any better? Seems to be loading a bit better now over here.

It still takes a long time to start (tried IE7, firefox and safari). It shouldn't take that long to load. I have pretty big files in my show and they load in less than 2 secs. Check out the loading speed there http://www.nikhilshahi.com

It must be just some coding problem. I really don't see why you should have this issue otherwise with your small file size.

Using WebDev I removed the splash from the generated object show code and
the show loaded real quick. So I think it has to do with your splash. I just get
the small image icon and no splash photo.

So can I take the splash out all together? Have it load with no splash?

First try different spash photos from different galleries and see if it will work.

Just remove the whole splash line to disabale.

I removed it and still could count 10 seconds or so with no splash image :/
