Any chance the video length for a power user will be increased anytime soon? Of that HD will be available for power users too? I am debating on upgrading to a Pro user, but frankly the only added feature that I would use would be the increased video capability.

I second the request for upped video length for power users. While it'd be great to have a bit longer videos without paying an extra fee, I'd be willing to pay a few extra dollars to get the enhanced video features that pros now have (but don't want to spend an extra hundred/year since that's the only additional feature I'd use).
Thanks.

I feel the same way. Going pro just to get decent video options is not an option for me either.

Slightly different take for me: I'd happily upgrade to Pro if I could do 15min HD video.
I understand it's a balancing act for Smugmug. Guys, is there anything you can say regarding your plans in this area?
Thanks

It'd be nice to see up to 10 min for power users if we're limited to DVD quality. Most video clips these days average 3-8 min. The 2 min limit is pretty tough to deal with, and I'm not willing to pay an additional $100 per year just to get it. I'm loyal to smugmug and have been for quite awhile now, but not being able to upload video longer than 2 min is becoming an issue.

I'm with the rest of you guys about more video time, I've had to part out some of my videos into part A/B due to the short video time.

Is there any plan to increase the video time for power accounts from 2:30 per video? I have a lot of clips I want to upload but they're in the 3-7min range. I have absolutely no use for the other features in the pro account and I think that the jump in price ($90) is not worth it for just extra time in video. I would guess there are other Smugmug users in the same situation. More video than 2:30 but have no need for a pro account geared toward professional photographers selling photos.
If there is no plan to increase video time for power accounts, how about offering a smaller, say $25/year, power-plus purchase option to add the extra video time to the power account? So instead of paying $149.95 for a pro account, I could pay $59.95 + $25 for power plus extra video time?
Thanks for your consideration.

Sam, thank you and the others for letting us know that this is something that you want. I will make sure the team knows that you are asking for it.

I wanted to register my vote to increase the video length. It seems to me that increasing the time limit while maintaining the file size limit would be reasonable. Users could then make length versus quality trade-off decisions and smugmug isn't impacted by larger file sizes or bandwidth.
Great service, otherwise!

and I'll add my cross-post from just a minute ago in another thread:
"I'd love to hear the logic behind the time limit. I just don't get it (and I did bring it up once via direct support, but I'll jump on this again to try and perhaps get momentum for a future change :) ).
Smugmug, as a provider, needs to worry about disk space.
Different people can find different things easier. For me, it's much easier to find the file size vs. the video lenght. I've heard it's the opposite for others. But what really matters here - for Smugmug - is disk space, not time (and of course, user experience).
I have several movies that are over 10 minutes long, yet far less than 500MB. Why can't the rule be something like, "Videos can be unlimited in length as long as they are less than 500MB"? Followed by guidance in your excellent FAQ: "Depending on your quality settings, a movie recorded in HD can generally be x long, etc".
The argument that I was given prior is that most people know how long their movie is but not necessarily how big the file is. It seems this current limit then is built for the extreme neophite, who doesn't know how to check the size of a file on their computer, where I don't think that represents the majority of your clientelle. And absolutely not your Pro users, which I am one of. I know Smugmug is easy to use, but for someone to even get to the thought of hosting photos online, I'd guess they have some familiarity with computers, including how to look up file sizes.
Long story short: at least for pro users, you should alter the limit to be bounded by file size, not something essentially meaningless like length.
Thanks,
Per"

So what I have heard you say is that video processing time is the resource that SmugMug is sensitive to, and as such, length of video is just a factor that (in part) determines video processing time. In the Oct 30th release notes, it says "We sped up video processing significantly", as such, should we expect an increase in video time? Thanks.

Baby steps. That was a step in the right direction. There are more to come.
