A sure sign of spring is when the geese show up at Creamers Field, the local wildlife sanctuary in Fairbanks. They only stop over for a couple of weeks on there way to the north slope where they will raise their chicks this summer. We had some really rich evening light after work the other day due to high, thin smoke from fires in asia somewhere. So I stopped by to try a few shots at the Canadians.

I'm a noob at the bird photos so would appreciate any pointers.

All shots with D200 and Nikkor 80-400/f4.5-5.6. Manual exposure for all shots was 1/1000s f/5.6 at 400.0mm iso500. PP with Capture NX +1/3EV on all three shots. Crop/resize in PS Elements and USM 100%, 0.5 radius, 0 threshold.

Great shots, nice overall lighting,very sharp, I especially like #1, how I can see the water dripping off him

Thanks for the comments, guys. Like they say, if you take enuogh shots you're bound to hit something sooner or later.

Great set! Just don't call them canadian geese in front of a birder, its like saying "seagull" Instant dark looks!

I recently posted some images of snows plus was trying to come up with a thread title to spark interest. I've seen some comments in the forum before suggestive that Canada Geese are pretty much yawners.

Zannoti, I had the same thought and started poking around on the net a little bit to see if I can find a website associated with tracking them. No luck so far but I've only spent a couple of minutes between doing other things.

Thanks for all the comments and glad people are enjoying the images. We had a window of good weather and light. Now it's snowing again. But the geese are a lot more active in the cold, windy weather :D
