oil smudge

Here's my latest effort at smudge to simulate an oil painting. My facial technique has improved, but the curly hair is driving me crazy!

Nice, but at that distance I can't really tell its a smudge.

I have a possible answer, even more so for swirly things...Is this sort of what you are after (resized to 800px wide)?
