I recently opened a pro account and an using my own domain name. There are links to my old site at http://www.nw-media.com/gallery/search.php. People clicking on these links get redirected to the smugmug home page. Is there a way to get these, and other 404 errors, to redirect to my accounts home page, http://www.nw-media.com/, instead?

Thanks

ThanksHello, welcome to Digital Grin :wave

I'm not sure if I'm understanding you correctly; You have "www.nw-media.com" set up to work with your SmugMug account, correct?

The page "www.nw-media.com/gallery/search.php" can not exist in that case because "/gallery/search.php" does not exist on SmugMug accounts.

It will automatically be redirected back to the SmugMug home page.

Did you have the domain set up to another site before?

Before I moved to smugmug the gallery for my site was at http://www.nw-media.com/gallery/search.php so there are several links on various sites pointing to that url.

Now that I moved to smugmug that page doesn't exist. Any external links that point to that url get redirected to the smugmug home page. For me that is approximately 15% of my traffic. In the past I created a redirect that pointed /gallery/search.php to http://www.nw-media.com/

It looks like any links that point to: http://user.smugmug.com/gallery/404page get redirected to the smugmug home page. Is there a way to have this traffic directed to the user site that had the error instead of the smugmug home page? Or even better a way to make a custom 404 page for your smugmug site?

Thanks

If you are properly CNAMEd, then stuff should just land on your new name.

Try http://www.moonriverphotography.com/junkandstuff.html

I didn't realize this until I did more testing. It's an issue specifically with the /gallery/ directory. Try
http://www.moonriverphotography.com/gallery/404.html (http://www.moonriverphotography.com/gallery/junkandstuff.html)

Yeah that I can't help, because we use /gallery too on SmugMug.

I'll make sure the team sees your comments, and if something can be done, we'll look into it. But I'm not optimistic, I'm very, very sorry :(

Thanks for the help.

Hopefully someday if the gallery isn't found the client be redirected to the users home page. If the user isn't found the client can be redirected to the smugmug home page.

I'll add it to the feature requests thread.
