The Dgrin Forum Rules
Registration on Digital Grin is free, but we do insist that you abide by the rules and policies detailed below.
The Admins and moderators of Dgrin will try to keep all foul messages off this forum, but it is impossible for us to review every single post. All posts express the views of the author, and neither the owners of Digital Grin, nor Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. (developers of vBulletin) will be held responsible for the content of any message.
By agreeing to these rules, you promise that you will not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-oriented, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws.
We reserve the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread for any reason and for no reason.
I have read, and agree to abide by the Digital Grin rules.

As a courtesy to others, please refrain from including images in
qouted replies.
By all means, include the image you're referring if it's relevant
to your comments. However, if you do include the image, please
downsize it.
For images hosted on smugmug.com, you can downsize by changing
the "M" or "L" in the image link to an "S". For example,
"http://ian408.smugmug.com/photos/16968468-M.jpg"
becomes "http://ian408.smugmug.com/photos/16968468-S.jpg".
By excluding images in your replies or downsizing when you do
include them, you help make the forum more readable for everyone.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Ian

If the mod's don't mind my adding an item to this, just a friendly reminder for everyone trying to be helpfull:
Remember that not everyone has footers shown. If you have a link in your footer and just passingly refer to it in a response, folks might not understand your response. Imaginary case in point, 'cause I don't wanna dredge up any of the real ones:
Anyone have any puppy pictures? See my dogs gallery.
If dog_lover has their smugmug url in their footer, and thus assumes everyone can see it; but wants_a_puppy has footers disabled, that post isn't quite as helpfull as it could be. In fact, in some situations, it could start a minor conflagration. For those not familiar with what the "don't show me no stinking signatures" view is like:

Oooh, busted!!!
Another alternative would be to fill out your dgrin info so your homepage shows up when you click your name.

Hmm. Why would you want to disable signatures? I'm curious...
I'd like to disable that feature....

Hmm. Why would you want to disable signatures? I'm curious...
It's a mater of personal preference, there are maybe a dozen boards I read beyond dgrin, I have signatures turned off on all of them, and avatars on many. It's one of the first things I do when I find a new set of boards that interest me: create an account and disable signatures. I dunno how long I lurked on dgrin between that action and when I started posting... a few months maybe. There are other boards where I've gone years in lurk mode without posting, but still logged in simply to have that account setting to disable signatures.
I'm here to see what people have to say on the given topic, I don't want the same text repeatedly in front of my face over and over and over ad-nausea. Especially with the blinky flashy icons, or the huge images, or the fancy color coding, etc that people put in signatures. It's just too much junk cluttering up the threads.
I'd like to disable that feature....
For the entire board? Please don't. Whoever has admin access to the boards (probably baldy) could probably do a query to see how many users have disabled signature display in the threads, and how many have not. This statistic was generated on another board I frequent, and it came down about 60/40... but then the very announcement of that caused the "what? you can do that? how?" questions, which pushed it closer to 30/70. (enabled/disabled)

Leading a horse to water....
I make global announcements, and people say "you never told us about that..."
We limit avatar size and don't allow any images in signatures.
What's in my sig is also the first item in our FAQ as well.

Images you post inline belong to you, or you have permission to inline post them. ALL other images that are property of others, should be linked only, not embedded as images. Because this is a photography forum, and we're all here to learn from one another, it's possible that a well-meaning Dgrinner may make improvements to your image, and post them for you, and all to see. This does not in any way mean that you've relinquished any rights to your photos - it just means that someone was trying to do you a good turn. If you object, you can kindly ask the member to refrain from making modifications to your images. And, you can explicitly state your feelings about this when you make an image post, if you wish.
By agreeing to these rules, you warrant that you will not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-orientated, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws. And we don't tolerate spam of any kind, this includes your signature line, too.
The owners of Digital Grin reserve the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread for any reason.
