Not sure if this should go in "technical forum" but it's macro related so i posted here.

Just curious if anyone has ever used the sb-21 ring flash ? I'm about to buy one used and wanted to hear from ppl that have used it...pros/cons, etc. I know there are other (more expensive) options, but i'm just interested in the SB-21 right now.

I'll be using this on either a NIkon D40 and D70s with a manual focus Vivitar 90mm 2.8 macro and 55mm micro-nikkor and M2 extension tubes - so no TTL support (which is fine by me)...

THANK YOU ! :thumb

No direct experience but a generic comment on this type of ringflash is that whilst it may get the light where you need it, they can produce amazingly flat looking results unless there is a way of varying the power from one side to the other (I don't think there is on this model).

THanks for the feedback Brian..

I did find some more info on it here (http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf3ver2/flash/sb21macro/index.htm)

...and it mentioned that this unit has "Dual, ratable flash tubes allow you to select flat front lighting or selected relief lighting"
