Day One: D70 Boot Camp:w/Harry B

What a great weather day...picture perfect as they say!

Master Egret/Birder Photographer /Nikon Knowledge Guru: a.k.a. Harry B was so kind in spending a beautiful morning at the Wetlands helping me to learn how to shoot my new camera! I borrowed Harry's 80-400 and tried for the first time to get some BIF shots: I took over 200 photos and have picked a few to share...go easy on me...I'm new at this!

Not too bad for my first BIF:
A Roseate Spoonbill I was absolutley thrilled to see a number of these at the W/L today..a first:

Obivously if this is your 1st (there always has to be one :D ). Harry is an excellent teacher and you are an even better student.

way to go trish.... that lens shows nice stuff! sometimes i wish i was wealthy enough to own a nikon with nikon glass along with my canon equip...... then i come down to earth and say " im lucky " to have what I already have and im content...... at least for a few minutes -

It's fun to be challenged and be able to learn something new! Harry is an excellent and patient teacher..then the eagle shows up:D

I can't wait to get out and shoot AND actually know what I am doing...

Wish you could have gotten tighter on that spoonbill, but what can you do when you're already at max zoom? :dunno I'm sure if you continue to shoot with Harry, he'll lure them down to "frame filling" height....lol

The best thing is that you seem to be having a ball with your new camera. IMO, that's even more important than the pics you come home with :clap :clap

Yes we had a good time! I love how my camera feels in my hands!!! Harry was nice enough to let me borrow his 80-400..but a 600mm is probably what I want:uhoh What I want and what I get seem to always differ:D

Yea...thanks...ya got me hooked for sure now! We will and Actually tomorrow I want to hook up but not at 7am for cripes sake...LOL.. I will need my lens for my adorable grandson's visit...after they leave in about a week I will set up the golf cart tour around Suntree for an early morning shoot...I swear we need a GC up at the wetlands...maybe we should look into purchasing a few and doing a rental business up there????..You can be the general manager since you are there everyday anyway...I'll work 5 mins each day except when I am on vacation...works for me!

I mean out of the 10 or so I have gotten, I have cropped some of them, lol.
I need a teacher. I have actually not felt like shooting birds lately. Every since my egrets left me, well, I have felt kind of hurt. Hate to suffer such pain again.

Haven't shot anything, actually, except a newspaper man and some port a pottys that I am saving for that potty festival.

Hope Dixie shows up and drags me where ever. He wants to shoot a lighthouse that is a "small" hike, I haven't done it in about 10 years. That is because I don't want to walk that far. I was saving it for a challenge to plug it in.

The BIF shot wasn't really sharp enough...the pic posted is already cropped..LOL

I have to limit myself (shooting) because of my shoulder..I don't enjoy using a tripod for the wetlands so I pay in pain...Having the surgery has totally slowed down how much I can shoot. If I overdo that wipes me out for a few days...so..for now I do what I can..but I try to shoot something everyday. It's good to shoot out of your comfort zone....it challenges creativity!

I am thrilled and will jumping for joy when I can begin to understand aperature, shutter and know what I should be setting the camera on. It slows me down when Harry isn't walking beside me saying 1000/7.1 -.03.... Fact is I have to just play with it to learn.! My beautiful little grandson will be arriving again for a visit and that always inspires me! I have had this belief in my head that I would never be able to understand all the settings of an SLR..to date that is true:D BUT I WILL learn this camera because I know once I do I will be very pleased with my shots.
