I've always liked the pictures of paintball, and am thinking about trying it, my only concern is how do I protect my camera and lens. I usally don't worry about them, with most sports, but I have a feeling someone may want to take a shot at anyone they can. Also would you shoot from inside, or through the net?:scratch

Field refs almost never get tagged, and then usually only if they piss someone off! I'd wear an orange vest (like most PB field officials) and be very visible. And try not to point out where players are to the other team. Long lenses.
OR. For the fun of it. 2 bodies, a prime 50mm and a prime 100. Full-on PJ/combat style. That'd be really cool, too!
Either way, your gear could get damaged, but I think it is unlikely.
Don't forget to post the pics!

Just imagine, very carefully, if that paintball had impacted your eye, instead of your camera's lens. Your eye could end up in a bottle on a shelf in a hospital pathology lab (http://www.medem.com/MedLB/article_detaillb.cfm?article_ID=ZZZD5TRRSKC&sub_cat=32).......
Always, and I mean always, wear head, eye and ear protection anywhere near the field. And then have fun:thumb

Sanford, I shot some paintball at the 2007 World Cup at Walt Disney World this last year. It was my first time also. I shot thru the black mesh netting that they had all around the courses. Wasn't too happy with the results because the photos weren't as crisp as I would liked them to be. If you would like to take a look at them they are at: http://www.jester.smugmug.com/gallery/3727104_UdZAQ#P-1-12
It was a fun day though. I enjoyed the experience.
