Cruising in Alaska and Drive Cross Country

So, I am getting married in July and for our honeymoon, we are:

Taking a cruise from Anchorage to Vancouver.
Flying from Vancouver to Spokane
Driving from Spokane to NY (where we live)

In our drive, we are planning on stopping at Glacier Nat. Park, Yellowstone, Mt. Rushmore, the Badlands, Wind Cave, the Minuteman Missle and Chicago.

I guess I am just looking for tips, shouldn't miss advice, etc.

It should be exciting, but I am sure I will have to pack fairly light since we will be traveling so much.

Alaska is absolutely gorgeous! If your cruise stops in Skagway, I highly recommend renting a car and driving the Klondike Highway into Yukon Territory. Absolutely amazing scenery!

It does stop in Skagway. How long does the drive take?

I don't know the route you'll take through Yellowstone, but you might want to take the southern way out so you can see the Tetons, too. Fantastic in the morning, particularly since you can get a shot across Jackson lake with reflections and all.

Of course, there's all sorts of neat stuff to see in Yellowstone -- great colors in the geysers, Old Faithful (of course!), wildlife, etc. Since you'll be there in summer, your best wildlife viewing will be at dawn and dusk (even the Buffalo slow down in summer heat).
