Some shots or window gnats with some 3-D cross-eye stereograms. The gnats are about 6-7mm body length.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone - much appreciated.
The colour un them is from some plastic lizards I try to use as background colour, but the in the last 2 shots the gnat decided to stand on one of their feet.

Goldenorfe - yes these are all focus stacked.

the mpe-65 lense is the only reason I would consider switching to a canon system. Every time I see your work Brian, I keep wishing Nikon would come out with it's own version of the lense. Beautiful work Brian.:thumb

Thanks again for the kind comments everybody- much appreciated.

Patrick - there are other ways of getting similar magnifications - I used to use my 105mm with a full set of extension tubes and a reversed 50mm lends on the front to get to 4:1. Not as conveniant as an MPE-65 I must admit.
I tend to use a dedicated back for the MPE-65 to try and keep dust problems to a minimum (the lens really shows any speck of dust on your sensor) so a canon back on the lens would not stop you being a Nikon person :)

Thanks Brian, I have a old 50 mm canon f/1.8 lens. How good is the image quality when you stack so much glass in front of a image? I saw the cardboard tube you rigged up but I just wondering if it is worth the effort?
One more thing, you mentioned that you use a dedicated back for the MPE-65? Do you mean that I could put a nikon mount on a MPE-65 lense?

It is almost scary with critters like these when the stereo image finally snaps into focus!

The image IQ is not bad at all. see pic below of a 2mm long springtail taken with ny sigma 105, reversed 50mm and a full set of ext tubes. Thatwas taken at F13 which is far snmller than I would use on my MPE-65.

Regards the camera back- no I was refering to using a canon DSLR just on that lens, there isn't any sensible way you can attch the lens to a nikon camera.
