I got my new toy today and played with it some this evening in my backyard. I waited until the light got low and took some pictures of some malards that were across the pond from me. I was using my 80-400mm VR lens. The pics themselves are nothing spectular but with the results that I got changing the ISO I am sooo looking forward to June when I go to Grand Teton and Yellowstone. I figure that if I can get pics like these at these ISO settings what can I get at normal ISO settings. I figure that I should be able to crop fairly heavly without having to worry about noise and still have a decent picture. I still have to worry about everything else to get a good pic.

This was taken at ISO 6400 (original)

I am more interested in the ISO 3200 to use in reptile houses in the zoo. I figure that I can get the shutter speed up to where I can hand hold the camera and not worry about the kids kicking my tripod.

Thanks, I am so proud to be the father of a new D3. Haven't decided what to name it yet though.
