Baylands. End of San Antonio Road. It's the 500 mounted on a Wimberly
tripod head (I caved on Saturday and went to Camera West in Monterey.
Same price as B&H. Neat store too).
This shot was 1/1000 @ f/6.3 ISO 100.
I have no idea where the good birds hang in SD :D

That's the place. Corner of Franklin and Calle Principal.
They still sell a fair amount of large format stuff--one of the few stores in the
area to do so.

Jeff,
Do a Google on "Los Angeles Egrets". I turned up lots of places, including the LA River. Here's one that sounds awesome :clap

Or, check out the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve, next to Huntington Beach.

Good luck and I'll expect you to be posting some waterfowl pics shortly :lol

Very nice Ian :thumb :thumb
So, hows the Wimberly? Was it hard to use on BIF's? And more importantly, is it worth the $?

Except for being awkward to carry, it's great. The camera and lens swing
effortlessly.
The question as to whether it's worth the money is a little harder to answer.
I definetly makes the flight shots easier.

Ok. Here's a visual to answer the ease-of-use question. Check out the eye...

LOL Ian,
I have almost the same shot :thumb You must have been standing between the rookery and the trees where the Night Herons are nesting.
