Hey all, just thought I'd say hi. New member here and have had a browse through some of the shots. There are some fine fine photographers here. I Just set up my own gallery on Smugmug :)
Anyway, I've had my 400D since last July and still very much in the learning stages. CC's would be welcome :)

good series ...love the 3rd shot & the 4th is hillarious..it looks like they chummed closer together for a picture of them both ...maybe a tighter crop on it though. well done

Nice Hyacinth Macaw. Are you shooting through the caging?
If not watch out for their bite. It will hurt!
(from experience with a Scarlet Macaw.)

Hi all, Thanks for the comments. I'll get the 2 together cropped more tightly.
Hi Don,
Yes I was shooting through the cage. Used the Canon 50mm at F1.8 and focussed so the cage was almost invisible :)

you did well to make the cage disappear ,the 4th shot looks like they posed for you :clap

I do this all the time. With a long lens and large appertures it is easy to do. Espceially if you are closer to the screening than you subject. Works well with flyscreening , too.

Fun series to look at; great job!
I like #5 the most b/c you can't see the cage or other giveaways that the shot is from a zoo. It can be tough at times, but I would say do your best to setup and then crop if necessary to get a friendly background.

Thanks again for the comments and welcomes :)
Just a heads up, I asked the webmaster to change my forum username to IPClark. I didn't like MrEvilGiraffe. Felt it was a bit silly.
As for crops, yeah, I'll get some tighter crops onto the pics later and re-upload (won't repost will just update my original post and put a comment) :)

Hi IPClark!
Nice shots! i noticed that most of your subjects are dead center, placing them off center will make for some better compositions (off course, not always (like with the two pelicans together, that shot screams for centerness)). other than that nice shots! :thumb

Thanks Chris.
Yeah lots of my shots are centre however I've learned more about the "Rule of 3rds" and have been taking some using the left or right third line. :)
