Just curious where most of everyone's sales come from here. From searches by customers on smugmug, search engine traffic (someone searched Google for beautiful sunset photos, found you and bought one), or from you (you shot an event, gave out your URL and someone bought something)?

Photographz, you might want to do a search in dgrin as this has been addressed before. For me, I have yet to get a sale from search engine traffic and most others might have the same experience. Word of mouth about the quality of your work is probably the best way of advertising! Good luck!

Photographz, from my experience here it seems that 98% or more sales come from people finding you by handing out your card or word of mouth. There is just way too many pictures on the web for people to sift through all of them to find you. Even if they find you 99% really aren't looking to buy something. The ones that are I'm guessing go to Getty images or other photo wherehouses where they know they can find something quality fast. I think I read someplace Smugmug is working on something like this for the future.
However, like J.T. said, these forums have many many posts exactly about what your asking. They have all kinds of great information from people who make a living selling photos.
