I need your help on this one. I have some Nikon raw files, They have an exstention of .nef. I am using Photoshop CS and it won't open them. I have checked the manual, and online help without any answer. All I can find says it will open many camera Raw files. This is from a Nikon 70 D. My co-worker )owner of said files) can open his files in Elements 3. Why not in CS. Any body have an answer for this?

I have to (Ok I don't have to) do some post processing for him.

Check out the third paragraph (http://www.earthboundlight.com/phototips/adobe-camera-raw-problems.html), see if that helps. Google is your friend!

Might I also suggest that you look into Adobe's DNG format and the free converter?

You can convert all of your NEF files to DNG, which the browser handles much better (and faster). I've found no functional difference in Photoshop. If you're doing your RAW editing in Photoshop (and not Nikon's app), I think you'll be pleased.

My workflow has me insert my CF card into my computer, run the DNG converter to take the NEF's off of the card and place them in my working directory as DNG, and then go to town on the DNG's (after burning a backup to DVD, of course).

www.adobe.com, look at photoshop downloads. Get the latest ZIP. The converter is a single executable, and there's also a new RAW file format plug-in that you'll want to drop in your plug-ins directory over the old one.

Couldn't be simpler.
