Wow, that lens looks like a weapon. Maybe it is. That's really how big it is? Man! I think I'm cured.

Charles, That is quite an interesting photo of you. You really seem to lead a very exotic life style. I'm lucky if I get out of the county every once in a while, much less the country. If you get tired of carrying that 500mm beast around you can always ship it to me and I'll be glad to take care of it for you.

It is that big. But bear in mind that the last 10 inches or so are lens shade and reverse for non-ready transport.

You are right about the exotic life and I guess it might seem as if I am some rich jet setter when the reality is that I am more like an impoverished mercenary adventurer who will end up as a discard in some foreign land. The gear are like the acquired weapons of the mercenary, memories of past successful contracts and are irreplaceable if damaged or lost.
If I am really lucky then this land will be my final home and my Ashley and I will have made a family here to make my end as happy and exciting as the beginning and middle has been. Hopefully I will record that and pass on the love of photography to another generation.
