Hello again ...

The majority of my site is, as should be obvious by my smugmug title, landscapes in and around L.A.; however, I also take a lot of bike-related shots. Right now, if you go to my home page, you'll see I have three categories showing: recent additions, l.a. landscapes and velocipedia (the bike stuff), with their respective galleries a second level down.

What I'd like to do is have all of the L.A. Landscape galleries on the front page, along with Recent Additions and Velocipedia, but not have the galleries from the latter two show on the page (so the thumbnail for Velocipedia would show up on the front page, and you'd still have to click on it to get to the Velocipedia galleries).

If you're still with me ... Is this possible? I supposed I could just feature all of the L.A. Landscape galleries and show the Featured Galleries on the home page, but then they'd basically show up in two places and that would be sloppy.

I tried using subcategories, but when I showed "galleries" on the home page they all showed up anyway.

One last thing, I've renamed "gallery categories" to "galleries" on the home page, so don't be confused if you check out my site.

Hope this all makes sense.

Thanks.

J

If I understand what you're asking for - it sounds like you want to show a mix of categories (your velocipedia & recent additions categories) along with all of the galleries from your l.a. landscapes category. Is that right?

I don't know of any way to show a mix of categories and galleries on the same page without rolling your own page. The smugmug "galleries" section will show either categories or galleries, but not both.

You could create an html-only page to do what you want. There are two html-only pages on my site that you could look at as examples - my Kaleidoscope page links to galleries, and my Gallery page links to categories, but either page could just as easily have been a mix of categories and galleries.

I would recommend rethinking what you are proposing though. I have a feeling that once you have a reasonable number of galleries in your l.a. landscapes category (and actually, you may already be at that point) that the links to your other categories will be lost on the page. Have you thought about using a navbar? That could allow a user to be looking at the l.a.landscapes category but have access to the others via the navbar.

Thanks Denise.

A navbar might be the way to go. Even so, would I be able to show only my L.A. Landscapes galleries on the home page? Doesn't seem like it. I guess at that point I could go the "featured galleries" route.
