Went to Santa Monica with a fellow Dgrinner last weekend and took a few shots. The city aspect didn't really catch my attention so we hit the pier and a idea was born to follow the beach and shoot some piers. Enough yapping here are some shots. CC welcome.

don't mind the tilt in the second last one. first photo is nice, the water looks like oil :D

How fun! What a neat idea. Hope you are taking more than one photo of each pier. It's interesting how differently they are constructed.

Hi Tim, that Santa Monica Pier must be huge :huh look at the amount of pylons under that pier gawwwwwwwd blymee!

The Manhattan Beach Pier, and the Hermosa Beach Pier are more the norm for what I've seen in my life time.

Looks like you got to see a really nice sunset on your trip with those last 2 shots.

One thing I see showing up in all 6 images is blown hightlights.

Thanks. The water can have some issues. The beaches here are closed due to contamination every once in awhile. :cry

I'm planning on continuing this adventure as far south as I'm willing to drive. I want to try some long exposure work at twilight. I should be able to get some better colors then. Thanks for the kind words, Dee. :D

Thanks Skippy. I have been liking extremes in my processing lately. There is a small midway with a ferris wheel and roller coaster on the Santa Monica pier. It is built strongly that is for sure. Lots of pylons. :D

The SM Pier is a great location for shooting; just don't get caught without a permit - it's very popular for shooting. Also, regarding the construction, it was rebuilt a while back as was the Redondo Beach Pier; All the salt water wears out the wood used. It's been around since the 1920's or so. I have some photos of my grandparents there as newlyweds. I grew up on the beach just south of the pier.
