maybe play around with cropping out the mulch side of the flower bed and therefore placing flower off centre in the composition

Hey JT,

Both shots have the subject just about in the dead center. You normally want to avoid that. Assuming the flowers are still there go back and take a bunch of shots from different angles and perspectives. See what works for you.

One question I have is how do these shots look to you, what are you trying to show?

Your focus and details in these shots are fine BTW.
