Hello all,
I'm new to dgrin and from what I can see, there are a lot of knowledgeable photographers here! I recently purchased an older Tamron 200-500mm lens with a max aperture of 6.9. I poaid $204 US for it on ebay. This was an impulse buy, and I am curious if anyone has any feedback on it. I am a consistent tripod shooter and wonder if it is much different than the new Tamron 200-500mm out.
Thanks!

From your comment, it sounds as though the lens is a non-DI version that, for the price and assuming its in good condition is a really great price as used versions normally go for ~$650-700 USD...

Thanks for the reply. I payed an extra $50.00 for a benbo tripod the photographer used with it. I am pretty excited as it should be coming in within the week.

Good Morning,
Welcome & congrats on yer lens:clap
I had Da Bigma for a while (Sigma 50-500mm) and that was a very good lens. I looked at the 200-500mm and actually shot a few pictures with it a couple years back. I liked the results after I pp a bit.

It looks like the lens is tied up in customs (I'm in Canada) for a bit. I've heard that the lens can be a little soft, but for the price, I'd rather do a little extra work in photoshop. I'm not sure if the glass is the same as with the Di version. I do know that this older model is made of metal rather than the new plastic (I seem to prefer this). When I get the lens, I'll start posting some pics up here.
By the way, nice galleries "Telecorder" and "jgoetz4". I enjoyed your moon phase photo.
