I'm almost of the same mind except that P mode works particularly well when using the flash.

Andy...you said 'just ask'

How do i set the 10 sec timer ready to go ? I cant see it on the menu & the book says P16 which once you have read it is as usefull as tits on a bull.

use "drive/iso" button then the small dial (near the shutter button) to move the icon to the clock. then to activate, you simply aim, focus, and fire. then the camera counts 10sex

in p, av, tv or manual, press the drive/iso button and turn the wheel just behind the shutter button. the lcd display will show single shot, full auto and 10 sec delay.

http://www.photoworkshop.com/canon/ Click on "pro-corner" and then on the 20D. Some of it is fluff but by clicking on the diagram mode in each section you will pull a little meat. In at least one place that includes a walk through of setting the menus

Ta mate.

Wonder whats in it....ive had a quick look at DPP & decided to use Raw Shooter instead. Its free & seems to do what the others do. But if it improves...
DPP is considerably better than the consumer raw concerter that is also packaged. Go to it and look it over. "C1" (http://www.phaseone.com/Content/Software/PROSoftware.aspx) from Phase One (http://www.phaseone.com/) is supposed to have better work flow but I haven't sprung $$$ for it yet. The best workflow s/w is the Free Kodak Photodesk but it is specific to the Kodak TIFF with the embedded lossless compressed RAW.

Charles i dont even know what you mean by workflow... i really aint designed to use computers. That capture one does the same thing as Raw Shooter but they want $100 USD..R/Shooter is free. Its really easy to use & i dont need any more stuff in it as once ive finished with RAW...i sent it to PS6 & i do the rest there. And I also didn't go to C1 but DPP which you should have got free from Canon will give you a little more control before you go to PS and the more you can do in raw the better the final image will be. Give DPP a run and check out the advanced functions.

oh yea... workflow is a one word for "how many steps to do this and how deep in crocs do I have to go before it is done" (time spent and difficulty)
