I've been looking at cheap lenses (Don't have enough $$$ for the real nice ones yet... I have my eye on the Sigma 28-135 lens. I've read both good and bad reviews on the lens. I have a $50 gift card to Ritz Camera so I would buy it there. Has anybody else used this lens? What other good zoom lenses (preferably one that will zoom a bit above 100mm) would be a good choice for around $200? Any other recommendations for things to get with my gift card?

I've owned Sigma "cheapo lenses", my friend in fact owns this specific lens. They are very good lenses considering how little they cost. But you must consider it as a temporary lens, a lens you must take care not to drop, etc. etc. Because it IS kinda cheaply made, so if it falls it will break. But if you treat it well it will treat you well.
Just out of curiosity, will you be shooting film or digital? 28mm is perfect for film shooting but with digital's crop of 1.5 or 1.6, you'll find yourself stuck at forty some odd mm, which is difficult to shoot with... There is an 18-135mm for digital, I believe, but I'm not sure who makes it. Good luck!

I get Sigma when there is no other option. 14mm, 12-24mm full frame, and so on.

It would be as a temporary lens. I would be shooting digital, so I know about the crop factor. It doesn't matter that much since I am using my 18-55 for wide angle. (Temporatily, of course) I just want a lens with a longer zoom until I can save up for a better lens, like the Canon 28-135, or the Canon 70-200 f/4Lhttp://dgrin.com/images/smilies/icon10.gif
