Just wondering if anyone has any facts on the Canon BP-511A batteries vs the Geniric Brands. From a performance standpoint is there any difference or is this just a brand name vs generic type case?
So far a good number of people have recommended www.sterlingtek.com (http://www.sterlingtek.com/) but I have never heard of them before.
Thanks, Aaron.

There are no differences, except that the Canon ones only have 1100mAh
while the cheap ones usualy have 1500 to 1600mAh. I bought 6 BP511
(it is the same as BP511A) LiIon rechargeables from ebay powersellers
over the last two years each costing about 10$, and so far all but the two
oldest ones are still working great.
My advice: save your money and buy a generic brand, they are just as
good if not better. :thumb

I think the performance should be about the same. I hear most third parties overstate the mAh's to promote sales but I hear they both hold about the same charge. I would make sure you buy from a reputable seller though as I've heard of some batteries sold without internal circuits to prevent overcharging and explosions.
I tend to buy mine from Sterlingtek and have had good results with them.

There is good reason why so many people recommend Sterlingtek. Just as good of a battery, if not better, for far less cost. No reason to get OEM. My Sterlingtek battery is now showing signs of outliving the OEM battery.

I have a couple of batteries from Canon and a couple from Goki. All have the same ratings and I have got to the point I can't tell which is which in use. Both brands seem to perform and last the same.

I use generics, especially since my husband works at BBY and I get a sweet discount on them versus the real deal... plus they usually hold more juice.
