I was visiting with a client today who wanted to show me an image I had taken of her daughter on my website. I was shocked at how horrible my site looked on her computer. The banner was where it was supposed to be, but the slide show was way off to the left of the screen, forcing us to have to scroll over to see the slide show. The gallery names as we went further into the site were sitting on top of the gallery thumbnails and we could not read them and when we clicked into a gallery (with the smugmug type viewing) the banner was at the top again, but the images were once again way off to the left.
I use firefox, I think she had explorer, but shouldn't a site look the way you design it to look no matter what the client uses?
I would really appreciate some help with this matter as I know that if I were a client and a website looked like that I would have left it and never come back! I'm wondering how many potential clients I have that might have done the same thing!

You think she had explorer? We really need specifics to help you best :)
Do you not have IE? IF not, you really must. Good webdesign is for IE as the lowest common denominator.
EDIT: So, those that want to help you will need a link to your website. It's always good to post it in your help request threads, and also put it in your profile (You! upper left, Dgrin screen).

Man, I wish. I spend 50% of my development time trying to make things work the same in IE as they do in other browsers. It stinks but it is the reality.

Wow. That's a lot of overhead.

What I don't understand is why it doesn't look the same. Isn't it the same interent?

Yes. But the browser is local software. Microsoft made IE.
Firefox was made by the world.
