EDIT Feb 19 315pm ET: Fixed and live :thumb

EDIT BY ANDY Feb 13th 1pm ET: This is a SmugMug issue, we're working on it. For now, access your account via http://yournickname.smugmug.com and you'll be fine. Most folks are having no issues in IE, it seems to be Firefox related.

Our sorcerers are working to fix it. Thanks for your patience!

Hey guys and gals, I'm not sure why, but for some reason, when I try to log in to my usual smugmug account via my personal domain ( www.pezpix.com ) it logs me in as always, but then when I go to my galleries, it only loads the 'guest' access.

For some reason, it wont show my options as owner, and the only way I can access my own site's setting is via the alternate address issued by smugmug
http://pezman.smugmug.com/
Can someone give me a bit of help on this? I'm not sure what step to take to proceed from here and my understanding of CSS is still pretty n00b

I'll make an extra special cookie for the first 3 helpers (Andy gets 10% cookie kickback though) :deal

Ivar, thats still not it. The log-in still wont let me access my account for some reason even after I sign in. This has never been an issue until today so I'm a bit baffled as to why it wont let me do it.

The main thing I'm concerned with, is that I cannot upload my photos unless I access the account via the pezman.smugmug acct sign in. I'm not sure why this only just started in the past 24 hours or so. Could it be a scripting or CSS bug in my code?

I'm having the same problem!
I login form the main smugmug page, and it takes me to my home page.
I see the messages notification and all that. But as soon as I go to the galleries or any other page, I'm logged out and only see what guests would see.
I can't do anything.

I have tried logging out, that didn't help.
It was fine last night around 6:30 or so, I even added some photos. But this morning, I can't stay logged in.

Those are your custom domain links. You must stay on nickname.smugmug.com right now to see your logged in stuff. Until we fix it.

Your nav bar is taking you to your custom domain. If you change your navbar entries to use a relative site location like <*a href="/galleries">Galleries<*/*a> (after removing the *s) you will stay within the domain that you used to enter the site, either yourname<YOUR nickname>.smugmug.com or jmphotographs.com.

Be sure you've logged in at www.smugmug.com and then go to your custom domain.

Try IE7 Vista ... working
IE/Vista is working, but after login I have to refresh the page to see the control buttons for 'control panel" and so on. That has happened before but has never caused a problem. Once I've refreshed I can proceed to a gallery and still be logged in.

In FF/Vista, I have to do the same thing on the home page, but when I proceed to a gallery it won't stay logged in and won't accept another login.

I'll try FF/Ubuntu later.

PS

Okay. I just played around a bit more with FF/Vista and found that:

www.tpt.smugmug.com/fixpix (http://www.tpt.smugmug.com/fixpix) will take me to the subcategory already logged in.

www.thepicturetaker.ca/fixpix (http://www.thepicturetaker.ca/fixpix) takes me to the subcategory but NOT logged in.

It will be a major problem for me if my custom url links stop working.

But, just to clarify, is this requirement to NOT use the custom hostname for login a new policy? Or is it just a glitch? I'm not too clear on that one.

Looks like you can add me to the list of people with troubles getting to their galleries and staying logged in.

I can log in and get to my homepage and see the options for "control panel" and such, but when I click on the navbar to go to my galleries I get logged out. When I click on my navbar links that go to HTML only galleries I stay logged in.

I just installed the new flash slideshow and wanted to move some new photos to my gallery of slide show photos(it's hidden) and can't get into my galleries.

Hmm. That's at least past of the problem then. As far as I know I've being doing it using my custom hostname for over a year now. Maybe that's why I've had small log-in glitches from time-to-time?

I have always used my custom domain to log in, never had a problem until today.
It works like a charm though, with my nickname.smugmug.com way.

I ended changing all my header navcontainer info to "http://jmphotographs.smugmug.com/" to stay logged in.

I don't understand why it worked fine for for months, and now all of a sudden it doesn't.

I don't understand I suppose, but why have a PRO account?, if I have to use http://jmphotographs.smugmug.com instead of http://jmphotographs.com

Andy:

Same problem using FF/Ubuntu. But here's the problem. (I'll test more deeply later, but it seems to be true right across all my browsers.)

If I log in from smugmug.com, that's fine. But I can't navigate using my nav bar or using any other links because they all use my custom hostname and this results in my no longer being logged in on subsequent pages. This means I must either key in all links manually, or use my control panel homepage to navigate around.

This was not a problem before. Sure is now, though.

Change your nav links to RELATIVE URLS and you'll always be fine, no matter which domain you are on.

eg:

/gallery/XXXXX_x2JgH
/Galleries
/Other

Okay. I'll give it a whirl later. Gotta say, though: while I get the solution, the syntax is about as clear as mud. When I get a chance I'll sift through the tutorials and see if I can find something about "RELATIVE URLS."

*shrugs* it's no big deal to me, really, as the smugmug service is still stellar, IMO... it's just that a small quirk such as this most recent one that's popped up can be a minor (and i do mean minor) inconvenience...

rather that fix it though, you're supplying a work-around instead, using that as a "fix."

i'd previously NEVER had an issue logging in and out using my custom domain name. i see no reason why that suddenly has to change.

PS - i don't use bookmarks...ever. never have...still don't. probably won't in the future either. but then again, i'm the guy that still writes all my code in notepad too. :D

Just thought I would share this in case it helps. The problem is directly related to a recent update of FireFox. I first noticed the problem on my desktop computer yesterday while my laptop was working fine. FireFox on mylaptop was still fine today, until I restarted FireFox and FireFox informed me it has installed an update. At this point, the issue described in this thread started happening on my laptop. Looking at my desktop, it had already been updated to this new FF version.

Here are the release notes for what changed in FireFox.

Any ETA on this? It was early last week when you guys said you had a fix for this and were testing it. Have we got anywhere with it?
The reason you're not staying logged in might because if you click anything in your navbar it switches you back to your domain page. You log in and land on your smug nichname page, good, but click nav and it switches. You need to enter the relative links in your nav to stop this.

Al -

the issue is that I have smugmug automagically converting from my nickname to my domain name which is the issue they have admitted to occurs since the latest bugfix in FF premiered. I work fine in other browsers.

The only bug that we're talking about in this thread is with firefox not recognizing that you are logged in on your custom domain.

Yes, if you use the domain swapper trick, then you'll stiil be outta luck in FF. Sorry!
We are fixing it, it is fixed internally and will be on the site soon.

I see, you have javascript that automatically redirects to your domain name. yeah, that'll cause problems.

Heh - yep, I've got the same thing here but now that I know to just use IE for a bit it's no big deal. :)

Maybe I should add a URL param that disables that script, a la ?seriouslyUseTheSmURL=1

Not that I'd actually be able to remember what that param *is* when I need it again 2 years from now. :D

Well, not sure if this will work for any of you but it works for me.

I somehow logged myself out again and found myself unable to login once more due to having the "Domain Name Swapper" javascript on my SM.

When clicking on the Login link, you are directed to the www.smugmug.com/login.mg page. When you login using the SM domain, you find yourself logged out when trying to acess "your domain" pages.

So, if you have a custom hostname as I do (prints.clubflys.com), then put that in your address bar along with the rest of the URL path to get to the proper login using your custom domain/hostname.

Examples to use:
http://prints.clubflys.com/homepage/controlpanel.mg
http://prints.clubflys.com/login.mg

Seems to be an issue with the SSL cert not after being logged in and not carrying over domains with your session once logged in.

Like I said... it seems to work fine for me. Hopefully it does for you until the fix is released by SM.

All fixed? I am still having issues. Strange. Are we sure everything is cleared up? If I go to my regular smugmug page and not my custom name I can log in and stay logged in, but any other way causes problem. To make matters worse, I am having problems viewing my pictures. They will not load even with my regular smugmug name, www.maestros.smugmug.com (http://www.maestros.smugmug.com). The page loads but no pics. I've tried in both IE and Firefox. I have the latest update to Firefox.

Edit: I cleared my cache and things are working better. I'll see later if everything is fixed. Thanks for working on this.

It only happens to me once per browser session -- any browser I use (Camino, Safari, Firefox, OmniWeb). The trick I've used is to just hit reload, and then it realizes that I'm logged in. I've tried logging in via www (http://www.smugmug.com/), my smuggy nick (http://ski.smugmug.com/), and my custom domain (http://www.lewandowski.us/). The only consistent behavior I've seen is off of the custom domain.

Any ideas from the sorcerers? Its a minor annoyance, but an annoyance nonetheless.

Thanks,
ML
